About

Born in Beirut, to an Italian mother and a Lebanese father, Habib Khoury is a self-taught pianist and artist. In the 90s, he moved to France and lived there for 30 years. His artist mother had a big impact on his love for art, music and manual work.

He left his passion behind and took a different path to build his professional career where he found refuge in art with his friends Bernado Gouthier and Nicola Rosini di Santi from whom he was inspired. He doesn’t describe himself as an artist because “an artist dedicates all his life to paint, it becomes his lifestyle and doesn’t do anything else” whereas he always painted when it seemed like the right time for him because of his overwhelmed schedule, he calls it his “passion”.

10 years later he went back to it after coming back to his birthplace and having more time to himself. As we can see it through his paintings, he is into abstract art and paints either in black or in colors. His love for black paintings, saying that “black is a color” was inspired by Pierre Soulages. He doesn’t plan things, only paints what he feels depending on the background and the colors around him. The paintings don’t have any specific message but can be seen through different perspectives depending on their current feelings “the same painting can be seen differently everyday”.
